S2 Awarded MDA Phase I STTR Contract
February 19, 2009 S2 Corporation has received a Phase I Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Contract from the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), in collaboration with our university partners at Montana State University Spectrum Laboratories. The contract was awarded in response to topic number MDA08-T012, entitled “Innovative Photonic Time Delay Units for Radar Applications”.
With the use of a wideband spatial-spectral (S2) holographic optical memory material, S2 Corporation will offer a unique and innovative photonic true time delay solution which will alleviate the fundamental problem of cascaded optical switches typical of traditional photonic delay unit approaches. Many (e.g., 100’s) of photonic time delay filters for wideband radar signals will set up and accessed with fast switching speeds (<< 100 ns) for radar beamsteering applications. The technology is based on years of previous research developed using S2 materials. A subcontract was awarded to University collaborator Montana State University Spectrum Lab.
